Follow a name into a life
A cemetery entry might lead to a newspaper notice, a family connection or a street where someone lived. A seed recipient’s name can reveal an act of remembrance; a visitors’ book can preserve the moment a walking party reached a remote lookout. These finding aids bring such clues together so you can follow them back to the original records.
Society volunteers have compiled and shared these indexes over many years. Clarice Boyd read through old district newspapers and made a card index of local items; later volunteers Sandy Mackenzie and Peg Harvey entered the index into a searchable database. Ask the research centre about this newspaper index as well as the finding aids available here.
