Share Your Story
Everyone has a story worth preserving. It might be a memory of growing up in the Southern Highlands, a family story passed down through generations, or something you have discovered about a local home, business or community.
Share it with the Society so that these memories can be kept for future researchers and, with your agreement, considered for a story on our website with your name alongside it.
What could you share?
- A memory of a person, place, school, workplace or event.
- A family story or research about a house, farm, shop or local organisation.
- A family tree, photographs, letters, documents or information about an object in your care.
You do not need a finished article. A few notes are a wonderful start, and our volunteers can help discuss the next steps.
Submit your story
Email us your story or an outline, your name and a way to contact you. If you have photographs or documents, tell us what they show and who created them, and attach copies if you can. Dates, names, places and sources are helpful even when some details are uncertain.

Please tell us whether you would like your name credited and whether you are happy for the Society to contact you about preserving or publishing your material. Please obtain permission before sharing other people’s personal information or someone else’s work; we can discuss any questions with you.
Then and now: a community challenge
Help us show how the district has changed. Choose a historic view from the Society’s image library, take a present-day photograph from a comparable position where it is safe and permitted, and email us both the image reference and your new photograph. Tell us the location, date and your name, and we can discuss the historical image’s reuse conditions and crediting your contribution.
