A school with two names

The Society’s index is based on photocopies of the original admission-and-withdrawal register held in its archives. It covers 1885-1945. The fuller register can include a pupil’s admission class, a parent’s residence, and sometimes a leaving date and reason; ask the Society about access to those details.
The local catchment recorded in the register reaches beyond Yarrunga: parent residences include Burrawang, Avoca, Myra Vale, Fitzroy Falls, Robertson and East Kangaloon, alongside other country localities and Sydney. These are recorded residences, not proof that every pupil lived at a single school site.
NSW Department of Education’s historical dataset identifies the school as a provisional school from September 1872 and a public school from October 1878. It records the historic name Yarrunga until April 1913, after which it is listed as Avoca (2), County Camden. The Society’s 1885-1945 register therefore spans both name periods. Use the table as a research index and consult a relevant register page for the original entry.
The table brings together each pupil’s admission date, age, religion, parent or guardian and occupation. Follow the page link beside an entry to compare it with the published transcript. Read about the register
